Firefox not responding on certain websites windows#
I am running Windows XP and an AutoHotkey script (.ahk) with a line containing "LWin::MButton" that maps the left Windows key to the middle mouse button.ġ. This is how it happened, to the best of my memory:Ġ. I have unintentionally reproduced this bug. There are at least two or three other "Firefox-won't-respond-to-mouse-clicks-unless-I-switch-focus-to-another-app-window" bugs that might be duplicates of this one: Bug 442572, Bug 451116, Bug 483254. One person (see third URL pasted below) claims that he still had the problem after installing a new mouse.

Some posters have suggested that it is due to a driver problem or a mechanical problem such as a stuck middle mouse button, but posters also point out that the problem seems to be specifically related to Firefox 3.x software.

On the one hand, I wish I knew how to reproduce this bug on the other hand I sincerely hope that I don't encounter this nasty business again.īased on my reading of support forum pages (first two of the three URLs pasted below), I wildly conjecture that this might possibly be related to the middle mouse button somehow. (Actually I used an AutoHotkey mapping of the left Windows key to the middle mouse button I don't have a mouse and my touchpad doesn't have a middle button.) Today I have been unable to reproduce the phenomenon. I experienced this issue yesterday for the first time, after upgrading from FF3 to FF3.5 a few weeks ago, and I believe (but am not certain) that I was able to fix the problem by middle clicking on the scrollbar to activate and then deactivate autoscroll. These occur just below the cursor position and then may disappear eventually if the cursor remains in one position for a long period of time and disappear immediately if the cursor is moved.Īnother difference in the behavior on my systems is that I can usually, but not always, click on the desktop, instead of having to use the task manager and then have the single mouse click. One interesting thing that occurs on both of my systems, when the problem occurs, is a small, square block of pixels (perhaps 2x2 or 3x3?) that either do not paint or paint as my very light beige, default system background color it's difficult to tell which.
The problem started occurring with the 3.0.0 Firefox release. The problem occurs much more often on my Win2K system however, I cannot identify a pattern on either system. I connect to my office system from home using Remote Desktop over OpenVPN (Remote Desktop is a commonality between the reporters environment and mine). This may be the same problem that I've encountered on both my Windows 2000 (home) system and my XP (work) System. (Is there no way to get a dump of them into the bug?) I've got a bunch of plugins, can list as needed. This has been going on for a few pushed-upgrades now, but unfortunately I'm not sure how many. Switching to task manager does not fix this problem you must navigate the boxes via keyboard. You can drop it down, but the highlight won't follow the mouse, and clicking does not change the selection. Sometimes mouse input is partially accepted: you can do most things, but you can't select something in a dropdown. The problem happens more frequently if firefox is being used via remote desktop, but also sometimes when on the machine locally.
Switching focus to the Windows Task Manager and back to firefox fixes the problem: sometimes only for one click, sometimes for a long period of time, but most generally for a few clicks. Other applications respond normally to the mouse.
